;A Community Approach to Better Health
Spring Update
Before we get much further into 2010, I’d like to provide you with a summary of last year’s highlights in building a community approach to better health in Knox County. Together! Healthy Knox was launched on April 12, 2009, in concurrence with a three-part Knoxville News Sentinel series about the status of health in Knox County. Since then,
- The community has been invited to engage in the process at more than 25 events, presentations and media appearances
- Nine community focus groups on Health & Quality of Life were held throughout Knox County
- More than 3,400 surveys on Health & Quality of Life were completed by community members
- In partnership with the University of Tennessee, 27 key informants were interviewed
Information gathered through surveys, focus groups and interviews are currently being compiled into reports. Here is a glance at what’s in store for 2010:
- Together! Healthy Knox will convene a community-wide partnership in the spring, with the goal of identifying and making a lasting positive impact on community health priorities
- Two assessments will be conducted: one focusing on the capacity of our local community health system and the other on the forces of change that might affect its operation
- Results from these assessments and others conducted previously will be used to set priorities for action
- An Action Plan for improving health in Knox County will be created and set in motion
As you can see, a great deal of work was accomplished last year. Thanks again for your contributions to and support of this worthy initiative. We look forward to your continued participation as we move forward in 2010. Watch this space for more news.
All our voices matter.
*Together! Healthy Knox uses Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP), a model developed by the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), for a planned approach to improve health and quality of life.
